BEECHWORTH CLUB PROJECTS
The club participates in collecting used spectacles, we have 2 collection points in town being the Local Pharmacy and the Salvo's Thrift shop. so far this year we have sent off 139 pairs for use overseas.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL INFORMATION BOOK
This is another project we have picked up on this year, Our local Pharmacy, Medical Centre and Hospital have agreed to display these books for customers and patients to take on a donation basis, these booklets enable helpful medical information to be attached by magnet to a fridge.
Once again we will be selling christmas cakes through local businesses, the price this year will still be a reasonable $17 each(Subject to confirmation) Cakes are usually available sometime in November! For more information contact John on 0417 054 553 or Email email@example.com
We are maintaining a local rest area just outside town on the right hand side of the Beechworth Wangaratta Road. This rest project was beautify this rest spot, refurbish picnic tables, erect 2 shelters and planting of shrubs. This was done in partnership with the local Police and. Beechworth Correctional Centre Community Team of which we were truly thankful
Two shelters have been erected along with refurbishment of 2 seats. Tree planting has taken place, water tanks and rubbish bins for rest area patrons.
ADOPT A HIGHWAY
This is another project of the club which the club has taken on through Keep Victoria Beautiful program. We clean 3km each side along the Beechworth/Wangaratta Road between Robinsons Rd and Flat Rock Road. This is done 3 times annually.
Local schools actively participate in this project, winning entry moves on to District Level..
Although no longer a club project we still support the concept, it is now a wonderful community project. Workshops are held in the Former Star Hotel, Ford Street Beechworth, Thursdays evenings 6.30pm to 9pm, and Fridays 10.30am to 2.30pm. All welcome to look see or help whenever you can.
LIONS MEMORIAL WALK - LAKE SAMBELL
Our long awaited walk is completed. As part of our 100th Lions Year Anniversary Project trees have been planted, path re aligned, memorial plaques for current, previous and deceased Lions Members plaques have been engraving and place. Two seats made from recycled materials have been installed on concrete for the seat footings. Our plants are coming on well and should thrive even further in the coming years. We have received great feedback, and people of the community have approved what Beechworth Lions have achieved.
GANG PLATE LAYERS COTTAGE
We have received a State Government Grant and completed Stage 1 of the refurbishment a historical house next door to the croquet club. This project is in patnership with Indigo Shire Council and Beechworth Correctional Centre. When completed it will house small community groups within the local community including Beechworth Lions.
This year we have catered for a number of local events such as Car Clubs, CFA Training, the BBQ for the Community Churches Christmas Carols In The Park and assisted with the 2021 Australia Day celebrations.
JUNIOR PUBLIC SPEAKING
For the first time in Beechworth Lions Club History we have an 2021 school entry into Lions Junior Public Speaking. St Joseph's Primary School students are looking forward to pariciapating in this Lions event. Further details will be forcoming.
